How Does The Groom Toast The Bride’s Parents?
Part of the groom speech is the toast to the bride’s parents. This is a very important part of your speech, as it allows you the opportunity to thank your bride’s parents for their help with the wedding, their kindness in welcoming you to the family, and of course, for their allowing you to marry their daughter. It’s a way to pay respects to your new inlaws and to introduce them to everyone else at the wedding reception.
Such an important wedding toast should be properly planned and practiced ahead of time. You want to make sure you choose just the right words to convey what you’re really feeling and to show respect to your bride’s parents.
There are different approaches you can take that are appropriate for this toast. The approach you use will depend on different factors such as
• Your personality
• Your bride’s personality
• Your relationship with her parents
• The theme of your wedding
In a traditional wedding, you might be more traditional in your toast. In a more modern or casual wedding, your toast may also be more casual. The most important thing to remember is that you are sincere and that you show your appreciation for the bride’s parents.
Here is a sample wedding toast from the groom to the bride’s parents
“And now I ask you to join me as I raise my glass in a toast to the parents of my lovely new wife. They are truly remarkable people to have raised such a beautiful, independent, gifted daughter. I am honored they have entrusted their daughter to me and I promise to live up to the trust they have placed in me. Thank you, _____ (bride’s parents names), for welcoming me into your family, treating me like a son, from the bottom of my heart, thank you for allowing me to marry your daughter.”
You may alter this toast according to your situation, the length of your speech and your personalities. If fitting, you might include some humor or a famous quote. You may add a story about when you first met the parents, something kind or special they have done for you or how you asked for her hand in marriage.
